Feardemic, a horror game publisher, has announced that the 2D psychological horror adventure game Afterdream will be making its way to consoles. Afterdream will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S later this year.
The game is being developed solely by Jesse Makkonen, who is well-known for his other 2D horror titles Heal, Distraint, and Distraint 2. Afterdream will also be released on PC via Steam, published by Gamera Games.
To celebrate this news, Feardemic has released a chilling console reveal trailer.
Embark on a supernatural adventure with a mystical camera
Visually, Afterdream boasts stunning 2D pixel art with an eerie atmosphere. Players will navigate through a haunted mansion that blurs the line between reality and lucid dreaming using a special camera. This camera will unveil hidden objects that are only visible through its lens.
I’m absolutely captivated by the atmosphere of Afterdream. It’s not easy to create a scary game with pixel art, but Makkonen clearly knows what he’s doing. Moreover, as a side-scroller, Afterdream seems perfectly suited for consoles. I’m genuinely intrigued to see where the story will take us, especially considering the impact of Makkonen’s previous games.
Afterdream is set to release in 2023 on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
