Andrew Johns predicts the Storm to reach an even higher level following their dominant win over the Eels in NRL 2023

Rugby league legend Andrew Johns has made an insightful prediction about the Melbourne Storm’s performance, stating that they still have untapped potential after their impressive 46-16 victory over the Eels. Standout players Harry Grant, Jahrome Hughes, and Cameron Munster were instrumental in securing the win, contributing to four tries. Johns expresses his belief that the Storm will elevate their game even further once they reach the semi-finals. He praises the efforts of the supporting players around Grant, Hughes, and Munster while emphasizing that Melbourne has more room to grow.

Despite missing key players such as Nelson Asofa-Solomona, Reimis Smith, Ryan Papenhuyzen, and Tariq Sims due to injuries or suspensions, the Storm will soon benefit from reinforcements. Notably, star center Justin Olam was also excluded from the team before the match against the Eels. Premiership winner Paul Gallen echoes Johns’ sentiments, emphasizing that once these players return, the Storm will be a force to be reckoned with. Gallen marvels at Melbourne’s ability to consistently produce strong performances year after year, defying expectations.

The Eels began the game strongly with Sean Russell scoring a spectacular try in the corner. However, from that point on, it was all about the Storm. Grant’s two tries and Hughes’ four-pointer secured three uninterrupted tries for Melbourne before J’maine Hopgood scored for the Eels in the 32nd minute. Just before halftime, Hughes assisted in putting Eliesa Katoa over, giving the Storm a commanding 24-10 lead. Melbourne maintained their dominance in the second half with Josh King and Marion Seve scoring tries, extending their lead to 34-10. Although Eels’ forward Luca Moretti provided a glimmer of hope with a try under the posts, Munster and Will Warbrick’s tries sealed the victory for the Storm.

Looking ahead, Melbourne will face the Panthers next week, while the Eels will take on the Dragons. Stay updated with the latest breaking news and exclusive content from Wide World of Sports by subscribing to our newsletter.
