The latest software update for iPhone users is now available. It’s important that you update your device to iOS 16.51, as it includes fixes for two critical security flaws. The vulnerabilities were recently exploited in Russia, but thanks to the cybersecurity firm Kaspersky, they were identified and reported to Apple.
Kaspersky discovered that the malicious code installed on infected iPhones had the ability to extract passwords from Apple’s Keychain, monitor locations, and modify or export files. Apple has acknowledged these issues and emphasized that an app could execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges.
In addition, there is a separate security flaw related to the Webkit, which may allow arbitrary code execution when processing malicious web content.
To update your iPhone to the latest iOS version, go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update. Choose the update you want to install and tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, and then tap Install Now.
The software update is compatible with iPhone 8 and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 5th generation and later, and iPad mini 5th generation and later.
Aside from the security fixes, this update also resolves an issue that prevents charging with the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter.
