A mod for Baldur’s Gate 3 has been developed to allow multiclassing on the Explorer difficulty level, providing new opportunities for players who prioritize the game’s story.
While the mod description does not explicitly mention it, multiclassing is disabled on the Explorer difficulty level and is only available on the Balanced or Tactician difficulty levels. Multiclassing allows players to combine elements of the game’s 12 classes, such as creating a Sorcadin (Sorcerer and Paladin) or a Gloomssassin (Gloomstalker Ranger and Assassin Rogue).
TheComposer, the modder, has released their solution on Nexus Mods, and it is compatible with both new campaigns and ongoing campaigns. It does not conflict with other mods, as long as they do not interfere with the same file.
Players can choose to install the mod using the BG3ModManager or manually by adjusting the game’s files on their PC.
Multiclassing offers both advantages and disadvantages. In theory, it enhances a character’s versatility in combat and mitigates weaknesses by adding new abilities and passive skills. However, in practice, players may have limited knowledge of which classes synergize well together, potentially resulting in less effective character builds.
However, multiclassing is a way for players to express themselves within the game, and Larian Studios did not intend to lock this feature behind higher difficulty levels for those seeking an easier experience in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Furthermore, director Swen Vincke suggested that newcomers should create their own character for their initial playthrough of the game. Vincke explained, “We include these origin characters to enhance replayability. I would always choose a custom character and discover my companions. I believe the origins come into play when you replay the game.”
As a reminder, the 12 classes in the game are Barbarian, Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Monk, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer, Warlock, and Wizard.
