Diablo IV’s upcoming patch, update 1.1.1, is set to launch on August 8th and promises significant improvements for Barbarians and Sorcerers. This highly anticipated patch will also introduce changes to endgame monster activities and various quality-of-life adjustments.
In a recent developer discussion, Blizzard outlined its plans to enhance the Barbarian class’s early game experience. This includes increasing Fury generation for basic skills and boosting the damage output of abilities like Rupture and Charge. For the late game, Blizzard is revamping the Barbarian’s Unique items and Legendary Aspects to make them more potent and appealing. These changes involve improving base damage and stats for items such as Hellhammer and Fields of Crimson, as well as replacing less desirable affixes with more in-demand ones.
Sorcerers, who have been struggling in the late game, will also receive attention in this patch. Blizzard aims to improve their survivability by removing negative effects related to their major buffs. This adjustment will allow Sorcerers to fully embrace their power without facing excessive penalties.
Even classes that are considered strong, like the Rogue and Druid, will receive buffs in update 1.1.1. The Rogue’s Rain of Arrows, Caltrops, Poison Trap, and Forceful Arrow abilities will see increased damage output and improved mechanics. Similarly, the Druid’s Ravens and Rabies Skills will be enhanced, along with select Legendaries and the Overload class mechanic. Necromancers will also benefit from changes targeting Bone Spirit, Paragon Board, and the Empowering Reaper and Exposed Flesh Legendary Aspects.
Beyond individual classes, there will be general improvements to Diablo IV as well. Companions and minions of the Druid and Necromancer classes will take reduced damage from certain monster abilities. The Caged Heart of Spellbreaking Malignant Heart will be updated to provide general damage reduction after elemental damage, making it an appealing option for players participating in the Season of the Malignant.
Unique item Temerity will undergo a significant buff, replacing the “All Stats” affix with Max Life and scaling the Barrier effect based on a player’s maximum life. This change aims to make the item more desirable and better synergize with various builds.
Other game-wide changes in update 1.1.1 include increased monster density in Nightmare dungeons and Helltide areas. Treasure Goblins defeated in this patch will always drop a Legendary item after level 15, and bosses in World Tier III and IV will have more health but guaranteed Legendary drops. Annoying Nightmare dungeon affixes like Resource Drain, Cold Enchanted, and Backstabber will be removed or adjusted to improve player experience.
Blizzard also mentioned several previously announced quality-of-life changes, such as increased Elixir stack sizes and the option to purchase an additional stash tab for gold. Respec costs will be reduced by 40% as well.
Looking ahead, Blizzard has long-term plans to balance damage types, making abilities like Overpower more comparable to Vulnerable and Critical Strike damage. The team also recognizes the need to make Resistance stats more appealing and plans to improve the effectiveness of Unique items. Mount mechanics will also be refined, as Blizzard acknowledges the frustration of dismounting to destroy barriers hindering progress.
On August 2nd, Blizzard will release the complete patch notes for Diablo IV update 1.1.1 to give players ample time to familiarize themselves with the upcoming changes.
