‘Beautiful’ hidden gem town is one of Tenerife’s best kept secrets | Travel News | Travel

Gorgeous Tenerife is one of Spain’s most popular islands and autumn is one of the best times to explore the Canary Island hotspot.

But while many tourists flock to Playa de las Americas or Costa Adeje, there are a few lesser-known destinations that deserve Britons’ attention.

The Orotava Valley is one of the island’s most beautiful spots but many tourists don’t include it on their Tenerife itinerary.

In the northern part of Tenerife, the Orotava Valley stretches from the coast to the foot of Teide Mountain.

La Orotava is one of the region’s most beautiful towns and it’s well worth exploring on a holiday to Tenerife. The breathtaking spot is the highest town in Spain.

La Orotava’s top-rated attraction is its Jardines Victoria, a manicured garden overlooking the town and coastline.

‘Hannah F’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “It was a happy accident that we stumbled across this place. Our tour of the Teide Mountain was interrupted due to bad weather so the tour guide took us here instead. My husband and I loved it and are hoping to return.”

‘Itzik L’ wrote: “The garden is large and beautiful. Well designed, many fountains. Overlooks the northern part of the entire city. Go to the top, where everything unfolds before you.”

At the Casa de Los Balcones museum, tourists can get a glimpse of traditional Canarian life in a well preserved period house.

‘Bobcat605’ wrote: “This house is fascinating as it appears to be pretty well exactly as it would have been when the last family lived there. Well worth a visit.”

Another tourist said: “The woodwork is stunning, each beam has been decoratively carved. There are a couple of nice photo opportunities on the balcony or through the windows.”

The Orotava Valley is just over an hour’s drive from Tenerife Airport or it takes around two and a half hours to reach on public transport.

Tenerife is the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands and enjoys warm temperatures throughout the winter season.

Jet2, easyJet, Ryanair and BA all offer direct flights to Tenerife with budget options available outside the school holidays.
