Chrisann Pereira drugs case: The actress, who was arrested by Sharjah authorities in the UAE, has been released. The Borivali-based actress was held in a Sharjah jail since April 1. She was imprisoned after drugs were found hidden in an award trophy she was carrying. On August 3 (Thursday), she will meet Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Fasalkar.
Upon her return, her brother Kevin Pereira took to social media and shared an emotional video of their reunion. He wrote, “Chrisann is finally back & reunited with us…I had announced in June that she would be back, but it took slightly longer and she’s finally back in India.”
In April, Mumbai Crime Branch arrested two individuals for framing Bollywood actress Chrisann Pereira in a drug-smuggling case. The primary suspect, Anthony Paul, a bakery owner from Borivali, and his associate, Rajesh Bubhate, a banker also known as Ravi, were apprehended. The duo admitted to providing award trophies containing concealed drugs to three people and drugs-laced cakes to two others who were traveling to Dubai. The motive behind these actions was revenge against the Pereira family. While Chrisann and two others unknowingly fell into the trap and were arrested in Sharjah, three others managed to evade the authorities.
Anthony Paul, who posed as a talent consultant, approached Premila Pereira in March to entice Chrisann with an audition for an international web series in Sharjah. He convinced Chrisann to carry the trophy, which he had hidden drugs in, to be handed over to an associate in Sharjah who would provide details of her hotel booking.
Upon her arrival in Sharjah, Chrisann realized that no one came to receive her at the airport. Instead, she was apprehended by the local police after they discovered the drugs hidden in the trophy. She was then taken to the Sharjah Central Prison since April 1. Anthony Paul, who held a grudge against the Pereira family, particularly Premila, even got into a physical altercation with Kevin, Chrisann’s brother.
The Mumbai Police have discovered that Anthony Paul had used the same method with other aspiring actors, promising them roles in international web series. However, one person declined to carry the trophy, while Chrisann agreed to take it with her. The police do not suspect the involvement of a drug syndicate, but rather consider it as Paul’s revenge tactics against individuals he had personal issues with. The investigation is ongoing from various angles.
Chrisann, an upcoming actress, has appeared in films like “Sadak 2” and “Batla House,” the web series “Thinkistan,” and several stage plays. She resides in the Borivali suburb with her family. Premila Pereira stated that they are completing the necessary legal procedures to approach the Sharjah authorities and will appeal to the Prime Minister and the Ministry of External Affairs for assistance in securing the release of their innocent daughter.
