UGC NET
University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) is a national level examination organized to select candidates for the post of Assistant Professor, or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), or both. Candidates who clear the NET are eligible to teach at the Graduate/Post Graduate Level. UGC NET is conducted by NTA two times a year: June and December.
Who is Eligible to Appear for UGC NET?
NTA releases a particular set of eligibility requirements for any candidate wanting to take the UGC NET. Eligibility is established on the basis of academic capability and educational qualification of the candidate as specified below:
- Aspirants must obtain at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories) in Post Graduation degree or equivalent examination from any recognized university.
- Candidates in the final year of their Masters are also qualified to appear in the examination. However, they will be deemed for JRF or professorship only after they pass their final degree examination with at least minimum marks.
- D. degree holders whose post-graduation exam was finished off before September 19, 1991 (irrespective of the timeline of declaration of result) are furnished with an additional relaxation of 5 percent in the minimum marks prerequisite.

UGC NET 2021 Syllabus
NTA has revised UGC NET Syllabus 2021 for Paper 1 and Paper 2.
- UGC NET Paper 1 Syllabus considers a candidate’s teaching and reasoning proficiency, research ability, diverse reasoning, comprehension, and public comprehension.
- UGC NET Paper 2 Syllabus is established on the basis of the subject opted by the aspirant. It examines the candidate’s in-depth understanding and aptitude in the respective subject. NTA’s UGC NET is organised for an aggregate of 81 subjects.
UGC NET 2021 Exam Pattern
UGC NET Exam is a computer-based examination having multiple-choice problems. UGC NET comprises of two exams – Paper-I and Paper-II. The Structure of Exam for Paper-I and Paper-II is as tabulated below:

CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test)
The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is a national category exam, conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), twice a year for inferring the eligibility standards of the candidates. CTET is used as a qualifier to select teachers for Grades I-VIII.
CTET is divided into two papers. Candidates can opt for either one or both as per their teaching preference. Candidates wanting to enroll as educators for Class I-V have to opt for Paper I, while candidates wanting to teach Classes VI-VIII need to opt for Paper-II.

CTET is conducted annually in 2 sessions – the July session and the December session. CTET 2021 Syllabus
CTET Paper I is for aspirants for Primary Stage Teachers and Paper II is for aspirants for Elementary Stage Teachers. The aspirants can also choose to attempt both the papers. The syllabus for the exams is as given below:
- Paper 1 Syllabus includes Child Development and the study of Pedagogy, where emphasis is given on academic psychology and education of children aged 6-11. The wording section will comprise comprehension, vocabulary development, and hidden passages.
- Paper 2 Syllabus includes 5 sections viz., Child Development and Pedagogy for children aged between 11-14 years.
- Subjects like Language 1, Language 2, Mathematics, and Science and Social Science are the other four sections. Language 1 and Language 2 will incorporate problems from understanding and vernacular development
CTET 2021 Exam Pattern
CTET exam includes 2 papers – Paper 1 (Primary Stage) and Paper 2 (Elementary Stage).
- Paper 1 is for candidates who aspire to educate learners from classes 1 to 5.
- Paper 2 is for candidates who aspire to educate learners from classes 6 to 8.
Every correct answer will be rewarded a +1 mark while an unfavorable marking scheme will not be acceptable for the exam.
B.Ed
Bachelors in Education (B.Ed) is an essential degree for any potential educator. Any person carrying this degree is eligible to teach in schools. It is important to note that a B.Ed or Bachelor of Education is not an undergraduate degree and to follow this program one is required to have finalized their graduation.
B.Ed is an experiential course and right after finishing it, candidates can get employment at the school level. Candidates who wish to teach at senior secondary level are required to have a Postgraduate degree before pursuing B.Ed.
The duration of a standard B.Ed course is two years. Candidates can pursue B.Ed through distance teaching as well as via regular methods. B.Ed course expenditure fluctuates from college to college depending on different parameters such as the kind of organization(government/ private) and method of teaching (regular/distance). However, B.Ed fees in a majority of colleges range from Rs 20,000 to Rs 1,00,000.
B.Ed Eligibility Criteria
- Academic Qualification: Candidates are expected to have completed their graduation in any stream (Arts, Science, or Commerce) to fulfill the B.Ed eligibility criteria. Most B.Ed colleges conduct entrance exams to vet out candidates. Who have finished with at least 50-55% aggregate marks at the UG level.
- Age Limit: For B.Ed entries in a majority of colleges, there is no age limit. However, the admission procedure of some B. Ed universities expect candidates to be of 19 years in age.
B.Ed admission in various colleges and universities is performed on the basis of the entrance exams. The structure of popular B.Ed entrance exams is such that candidates are expected to attempt questions from two or three categories.
