Phil Gould has backed Cody Walker to be the difference in tonight’s semi-final, tipping the Bunnies to get over the line against the Sharks. 

“Cody Walker, the way he positions himself – Wayne Bennett made a statement last year that Cody Walker was the best playmaker he’d ever coached, which is a huge statement given the players that he’s coached – but he is,” he said on Nine’s Six Tackles with Gus.

“It’s what he does before he gets the ball that makes the difference, how he positions himself and the people around him, and the running patterns that he uses.”

Walker was at his best last week for the Rabbitohs, with four try assists in their massive over the Roosters.

“Some players have got to go to the line with a premeditated thought … Cody Walker goes to the line with a clear head. He’s got no pre-determined notions,” Gould said.

“What’s pre-determined is ‘I know this defensive line could react in two or three different ways’, and he’s got the patience to wait, to suck them in, and then deliver a longer pass or a shorter pass or a kick.

“He’s quite brilliant, the way he does it. An extraordinary playmaker.”
