If you’ve ever suffered from a migraine, then you can instantly recognise the throbbing pain that usually strikes one side of your head.
Able to last for hours or even days, migraines can also spur on other uncomfortable symptoms like stiff neck and tiredness.
While painkillers and prescription medications are usually the first port of call for sufferers, a doctor has shared a tip that doesn’t come with any side effects unlike medicines.
Dr Kunal Sood, a board-certified acute and chronic pain doctor, took to his TikTok to reveal a migraine treatment you can do from the comfort of your home.
What’s more, all you need is hot water to be able to try it.
In the viral clip, which gained 6.5 million views, the doctor explained how soaking your feet in could help relieve the intense pain.
Furthermore, this easy hack doesn’t have any of the same side effects that medication may leave you with.
The doctor said: “If you suffer from migraine headaches, here’s a hack to try that has zero side effects and may help – soaking your feet in hot water.”
He explained that the hot water could help dilate the blood vessels in your feet, releasing blood from your head.
When the blood is pulled away from where migraines strike, it could reduce the pain you are experiencing.
“This will dilate the blood vessels in your feet, pulling blood away from your head, which will ease the pressure on the blood vessels causing your migraine, which will, in turn, decrease your pain,” Dr Sood said.
One user shared in the comments that he tried the tip and “it worked a treat”.
The TikToker penned: “I did this last week. Soaked my feet for 10 minutes in hot water and it worked a treat. I had a mild headache for about four hours after.”
Another user shared she’s been doing this “for years”. “I sit on the edge of the tub and run the hot water.”
