During Q2, iPhone shipments experienced a 70% surge in the world’s second-largest smartphone market

Android phones dominate the Indian market with a market share of nearly 95%, thanks to their flexible pricing. To avoid import taxes, Apple plans to increase its iPhone production in India. This move is expected to lower the prices of iPhones, making them more affordable for cost-conscious Indian buyers. Moreover, Apple aims to boost its market share in India, which is currently quite low.
During the second quarter of 2023, Apple’s market share in India witnessed significant growth, as reported by CyberMedia Research (CMR) via the India Times. iPhone shipments spiked by 70% year-over-year from April to June. Menka Kumari, an analyst at CMR, stated that the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 series played a crucial role in driving this remarkable growth.

During the quarter, 52% of the delivered iPhone models belonged to the 2021 iPhone 13 series. The iPhone 14 line from the previous year accounted for 45% of shipments, while iPhone 11 models from 2019 represented 2%. The remaining 1% of shipments came from the 2020 iPhone 12 series.

iPad shipments in India also experienced growth, increasing by 6% year-over-year during the second quarter. Indian consumers are using Apple’s tablets for work, leisure, and education. The ninth-generation iPad from 2021 held the highest market share of 42% among Q2 iPad shipments, followed by the tenth-generation iPad from the previous year, accounting for 22% of shipments. The iPad Air (2022) and iPad Pro (2022) series saw respective increases of 18% and 16% in shipments.

CMR predicts that Apple’s strong performance will continue throughout the second half of the year, projecting a 7% share of the smartphone market in India by the end of the year. For the tablet market, CMR expects a 25% market share for iPads in India by the end of the year.
