Frank Frazeta’s granddaughter Sara Frazetta is co-writing a new Vampirella comic series published by Dynamite. Introducing Vampirella: Dead Flowers.
In 1969, the legendary artist Frank Frazetta painted the cover for the first issue of Vampirella Magazine, thus co-creating the iconic character. Now, 54 years later, his granddaughter Sara Frazetta is co-writing a new Vampirella comic series published by Dynamite Entertainment. Titled Vampirella: Dead Flowers, the series is co-written by “occult detective” Bob Freeman and illustrated by Alberto Locatelli. The covers for the series will feature artwork from Lucio Parrillo, Collette Turner, Ergün Gündüz, Alberto Locatelli, cosplayer Rachel Hollon, and Frank Frazetta’s original painting. Sara Frazatta herself has also contributed covers. In the comic, Sara Frazetta has written her grandfather Frank Frazetta into the story, depicting him painting Vampirella’s portrait.
As a co-founder of the Frazetta Girls, Sara has not only carried on her grandfather’s legacy through licensing, merchandising, and education, but she has also taken on the artistic mantle herself. She expressed her excitement about contributing to the Frazetta legacy with Vampirella, stating, “It’s such an honor for me to carry on the Frazetta legacy with Vampirella. Now, being able to pick up that torch myself, in a small way of course, is entirely surreal. I’ve loved Vampirella since I was a little girl.”
In this new series, one of Vampirella’s long-standing enemies meets his demise, leading her to his Gothic estate called Rookhaven to hear his last will and testament. Along the way, readers will be introduced to the eccentric staff of the manor, including a mysterious groundskeeper and his enigmatic young daughter, as well as the sinister Mr. Frey and others.
This thrilling tale embodies Gothic horror and pays homage to the classic Warren magazine era, which featured Jose Gonzalez’s artwork on the covers and contributions from Frank Frazetta. The eerie script and Locatelli’s art capture the sinister mansion, mist-covered graveyard, witches, ghosts, werewolves, and other elements that fans will undoubtedly love.
In addition to the new series, Dynamite will
