Evernote to Downsize Workforce, Focuses on Operations in Europe

Evernote has made significant changes to its workforce, resulting in layoffs for the majority of its employees in the US and Chile. These layoffs are part of a larger transition, as Evernote’s parent company, Bending Spoons, moves the company’s operations to Europe.

The acquisition of Evernote by Bending Spoons in November 2022 was seen as an opportunity for the company to develop new features and leverage Bending Spoons’ app expertise and proprietary technologies. However, in February, Evernote had to cut 129 employees due to its unsustainable profitability.

In a blog post, Evernote CEO Francesco Patarnello explained the reasons behind the transition to Europe. By relocating operations, Evernote aims to improve operational efficiency and take advantage of the strong employer brand of Bending Spoons in Europe. Unfortunately, this decision resulted in layoffs for employees based in Chile and the US, but Evernote is committed to providing a comprehensive separation package that includes salary support, health insurance coverage, and performance bonuses.

Despite these changes, Evernote’s plans remain ambitious. A dedicated and growing team based in Europe will continue to lead the development of the Evernote product. This team will have access to the extensive expertise of the 400-plus workforce at Bending Spoons, many of whom have been working on Evernote full-time since the acquisition.

Evernote expresses gratitude for the contributions and dedication of its departing colleagues and wishes them the best for their future endeavors.
