Here Comes Android 14 Beta 3.1: Fixes Two Critical Bugs, But Potentially Scary!

If you’re a Pixel user who installed Android 14 Beta 3 and encountered issues with your under-display fingerprint sensor, we have good news for you. Google has now released Android 14 Beta 3.1, and you can get the update by navigating to Settings > System > System update. The build number is UPB3.230519.914, and for Pixel 6 Pro users, the update size is 65.14 MB. Apart from fixing the fingerprint sensor, this release also addresses one other bug, as noted in the release notes.
Here are the two fixes listed:

  • Resolved issues that caused the Fingerprint Unlock to become either unavailable or unusable on some devices. (Issue #284360298, Issue #284529436, Issue #284436572)
  • Fixed platform compatibility bugs that triggered mapping SDKs to crash-dependent apps in some cases.

The return of the fingerprint sensor is undoubtedly great news, but there are still many other weird and buggy things happening with Android 14 Beta 3. For example, one bug shows your battery percentage at 100% even when it isn’t, while another displays a second layer of data covering the status bar at the top of the screen.

However, despite the update fixing the fingerprint sensor, the bug that prevents users from sharing websites, apps, and other files with others is still not resolved. This has been the most significant issue for many Pixel users concerning Android 14 Beta 3.

After the latest Beta update, there were some concerning moments when my Pixel couldn’t make calls. It seemed like the update had broken my cellular connection. To fix this, I went to Settings > Network & internet > SIMs and found out that my carrier’s eSIM wasn’t active. After tapping on my carrier’s name under the SIMs page, I received a prompt that allowed me to turn on the eSIM, and my cellular connection was restored. If you encounter this problem, follow the same steps outlined above. If the problem persists, contact your carrier through another phone or a landline.

Android 14 Beta 3.1 comes with the June 5, 2023 security patch, which is a significant improvement over several months of neglect. This beta program is available for several Pixel models, including Pixel 4a (5G), Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel 7a.

Pixel users subscribed to the Android 14 Beta program are still awaiting the restoration of the share feature. Hopefully, Google will soon address this issue and restore the functionality.
