According to yoga guru Pragya Bhatt, this kriya is fantastic for anyone with asthma, bronchitis, recurrent colds, sinus problems, and headaches.
Masaba Gupta is known for her unwavering dedication to her fitness program. Recently, the acclaimed fashion designer was seen practicing Mukha Dhauti Kriya, a yogic technique known to enhance breathing and increase oxygen levels in the body, as part of her fitness regimen.
According to Gupta, this kriya is her go-to breathing practice for “recovery,” as it helps release tension and anger, balances the digestive system, and relieves migraines. She recommends doing it in the morning on an empty stomach.
Masaba Gupta also demonstrated the steps for her fans and supporters. Check it out below:
- Bend over while exhaling through your mouth and standing tall.
- Clench your groin, tuck your stomach in, wrap your ribs with your chin tucked in, and hold your breath.
- Release all locks or bandhas before experiencing difficulty, and then exhale.
How does the technique aid?
Yoga guru Pragya Bhatt described the kriya as a purifying practice that involves holding the three bandhas, or locks (Jalandhar, Udyana, and Moola Bandha), while exhaling deeply through the lips. “The benefits include massaging the internal organs and activating the body’s major glands. Additionally, it helps in toning the digestive system. With few exceptions, this is a safe practice,” according to Bhatt.

Indications:
Pregnant or menstrual women should avoid this practice, warns Bhatt. Additionally, Bhatt added, “Anyone with ulcers or recent stomach surgery should refrain from this practice.
Furthermore, Bhatt informed that this kriya is excellent for individuals with asthma, bronchitis, recurrent colds, sinus problems, and headaches. Athletes should also include it in their routine as it helps increase lung capacity and improve breathing. Additionally, it strengthens the neck and facial muscles and tones the waist,” according to Bhatt.
