The UK lawsuit’s verdict resulted in Warner Bros dropping the actor from his role in its Fantastic Beasts franchise.

Johnny now has a $50M defamation lawsuit against his ex Amber, which is set to go to trial in the US in April next year.

Amber is pursuing a $100M counterclaim in response.

Fairfax County Chief Judge Penney Azcarate rejected actress Amber’s motion to dismiss the case.

“Defendant’s claim that refusing to recognize the U.K. Judgment in this case would set a dangerous precedent is unfounded,” Azcarate said. 

“If anything, upholding English libel judgments in the United States would create the chilling effect and could create a dangerous precedent. Accordingly, this Court is unpersuaded by Defendant’s argument.”
