Loupedeck, the original Lightroom editing console that began as an Indiegogo project, has recently been acquired by Logitech. The companies have announced the acquisition, stating that the exact sum remains undisclosed, but is considered “non-material”. Logitech G general manager, Ujesh Desai, expressed that this acquisition enhances Logitech’s current product portfolio and furthers their software ambitions of creating smarter, contextually aware keyboards, mice, and more.
Loupedeck initially introduced their advanced editing console, the Loupedeck CT, in 2019. However, they have since shifted their focus towards video streaming with the development of Loupedeck Live and Loupedeck Live S. These products provide an alternative to Elgato’s Stream Deck, and are utilized by content creators to incorporate titles, picture-in-picture, and other elements into live streams. Additionally, Loupedeck collaborated with Razer to create their own creator product, the Stream Controller.
By acquiring Loupedeck, Logitech aims to provide content creators, including gamers and livestreamers, with a premium experience. Logitech also promises a more seamless user experience for onboarding, presets, and the integration of Streamlabs apps with Loupedeck devices. Loupedeck anticipates that joining forces with Logitech will significantly expand their audience.
Notably, Logitech had previously acquired Streamlabs in 2019 to strengthen their presence in game streaming. This acquisition is one of several strategic purchases made by Logitech in recent years. In 2016, they acquired gaming peripheral company Saitek, followed by the purchase of Astro, a popular headset brand among gamers and streamers, in 2017. In 2018, Logitech further expanded their portfolio by acquiring Blue Microphones.
Regarding the outcome of these acquisitions, Logitech retired the Blue branding earlier this year. However, they continue to manufacture most of Blue Microphones’ original products, such as the Yeti and Snowball mics. While Loupedeck’s products are well-regarded, they may benefit from Logitech’s expertise in optimizing manufacturing quality and potentially reducing costs. Nevertheless, Loupedeck assures its customers and partners that it will continue operating as usual in the foreseeable future.
