Here are the top 5 SUVs that you can buy in place of the Thar Roxx.
Mahindra has unveiled the much-anticipated 5-door Thar Roxx. Amidst much speculation about its name, with many anticipating it to be called the Thar Armada, Mahindra has clarified that such a name was never under consideration. The Thar Roxx, available in both rear-wheel and 4×4 drivetrains, is set to rival established models like the Force Gurkha and Maruti Suzuki Jimny, as well as urban SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Kia Seltos. Let’s explore alternative options in the mid-size SUV market beyond the Thar Roxx.
1. Maruti Suzuki Jimny
The Jimny has not been able to set the sales charts on fire, but with great discounts available from the dealers, it is a value-for-money proposition. The SUV comes standard with a 4×4 drivetrain and is available in two variants — Zeta and Alpha. Both come with two transmission options, the 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic torque converter. It gets a 1462 cc naturally aspirated engine with 103 bhp and 134.2 Nm of torque. Based on the ladder frame chassis like the Thar Roxx, officially, the Jimny is priced from Rs 12.74 lakh to Rs 14.79 lakh, ex-showroom.
2. Force Gurkha
Like the Thar Roxx and the Jimny, the Gurkha is based on a rigid ladder frame platform and is one of the most extreme offroaders in the Indian market. It is available as a 3-door or a 5-door. It comes standard with an air intake snorkel and a class-leading ground clearance of 233 mm, water wading ability of 700 mm and gradability of 35-degree angle. The 3-door Gurkha costs Rs 16.75 lakh and the 5-door at Rs 18 lakh, ex-showroom.
3. Hyundai Creta
The Creta is the king of the urban SUV segment and will give fierce the Thar Roxx rear-wheel-drive. The NA has an output of 113 bhp and 143.8 Nm and is available with a CVT or a 6-speed manual gearbox. The turbo pumps out 158 bhp and 253 Nm and is mated to a 7-speed DCT automatic. 4. Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara
The Grand Vitara comes in two variants: the mild hybrid and the strong hybrid. The mild hybrid is equipped with a 1462 cc NA petrol engine that delivers 103 bhp and 136.8 Nm of torque, available with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic torque converter. On the other hand, the strong hybrid features a 1490 cc engine coupled with an electric motor, producing a combined output of 91 bhp and 122 Nm of torque, paired with an eCVT gearbox. The turbo gets a clutchless 6-speed transmission and 7-speed DCT automatic and the diesel gets the clutchless, manual and a 6-speed automatic torque converter.
