Major Display Upgrade Expected for Google Pixel 8, Reports Suggest

According to a reliable source, the upcoming Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will feature significant upgrades to their displays compared to last year’s Pixel 7 models.

This information comes from Kamila Wojciechowska at Android Authority, a reputable source in the tech industry. Wojciechowska reports that the Pixel 8 will have a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz, an improvement from the 90Hz refresh rate on the Pixel 7. The Pixel 8 Pro will maintain its 120Hz refresh rate, similar to the Pixel 7 Pro, but both phones will offer a wider range of refresh rates overall, which will enhance battery life.

Brightness will also be boosted on the new Pixel devices. The Pixel 8 will reportedly have a maximum HDR brightness of 1,400 nits, while the Pixel 8 Pro will reach 1,600 nits. In comparison, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro had a maximum HDR brightness of 1,000 nits.

However, the display sizes will be slightly smaller on the Pixel 8 models. The Pixel 8 screen will shrink from 6.3 inches to 6.17 inches, while maintaining the same 2400 x 1800 pixel resolution. The Pixel 8 Pro screen will be 6.70 inches instead of 6.71 inches, and it will have a resolution of 2992 x 1344 pixels, down from 3120 x 1440 pixels on the Pixel 7 Pro.

Curves or no curves

Calculating the pixels-per-inch, the Pixel 8 will have 427 PPI compared to the previous 417 PPI, while the Pixel 8 Pro will see a decrease from 512 PPI to 490 PPI. These differences are relatively small and may not be easily noticeable.

The changes in display specifications are partly due to the new display panels that Google is sourcing for these devices. According to previous leaks, the Pixel 8 Pro will transition from a screen with curved edges to a fully flat display, similar to the Pixel 7 and Pixel 8, but different from the Pixel 7 Pro.

We are excited about the rumors surrounding the Google Pixel 8 phones. The improved display specifications, such as refresh rates and brightness, provide potential buyers with another compelling reason to consider purchasing these devices.

Additionally, we have already heard rumors about the enhanced performance and superior camera modules that the Pixel 8 phones will offer. There are even rumors of a built-in thermometer. If Google follows its usual release schedule, we can expect the Pixel 8 phones to be launched around October.
