Manchester United star Anthony Martial left the training ground early on Thursday. Martial was spotted departing United’s Carrington complex just five minutes after arriving ahead of Saturday’s return to club football.
The MEN report Martial was spotted leaving Carrington shortly after driving through the gates on Thursday morning. However, the Frenchman had got his timings all wrong and was told to come back later in the day when the quad was expected.
Martial is claimed to have arrived at United’s base in his Mercedes G Wagon at around 8.55am. However, he was then captured whizzing back down the road just four minutes later.
The 27-year-old striker has started United’s last two Premier League games – the 3-2 comeback win against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford and the 3-1 defeat at Arsenal before the international break.
Ten Hag could be without five starting players when Roberto De Zerbi’s dangerous Brighton and Hove Albion side visit Old Trafford this weekend. Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw and Mason Mount are expected to be ruled out through injuries sustained before the international break.
Meanwhile, Lisandro Martinez is also an injury doubt after his withdrawal against Arsenal last time out. And Antony is on a leave of absence as he addresses allegations of abuse from three women in Brazilian media. The 23-year-old has strongly denied any wrongdoing and vowed to prove his innocence.
New £72million signing Rasmus Hojlund arrived at the club without a minor back injury, keeping him out of the season’s opening three fixtures. But he replaced Martial in the second half at the Emirates Stadium last time out and has been backed to make his first start when Brighton visit M16 this weekend.
It will come as a significant blow to Ten Hag if Martial has suffered his latest injury setback, though, given his attacking options have become thin in recent weeks.
Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellistri pose as the Dutchman’s options on the wing with Antony out of contention. But Jadon Sancho’s involvement is up in the air after his exclusion from the trip to Arsenal due to ‘poor training performances’ sparked a public spat with Ten Hag.
And if Martial is not selected it leaves Hojlund – a 20-year-old without a full Premier League game under his belt – as Ten Hag’s only senior striker.
United are desperate to return to winning ways against the Seagulls after unconvincingly triumphing in both Old Trafford outings but losing two of their opening four games to Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.
