Even series creator Masahiro Sakurai is taking a well-deserved break. However, that doesn’t stop people from speculating about what could have been or what could still happen! One such person is Mortal Kombat boss Ed Boon.
In an interview with Axios, Boon shared his ideal Mortal Kombat character addition to the Smash roster:
“Without hesitation, Scorpion. And if they want two, it would be Scorpion and Sub-Zero.”
Boon explains that these choices are based on their high visibility on the battlefield, noting that it’s cool to see Scorpion use his spear to pull opponents, something that current combatant Ridley knows well.
It’s hard to argue with Boon’s choices. Scorpion and Sub-Zero have more animated designs compared to other “core” Mortal Kombat fighters, making them a perfect fit for the Smash aesthetic. Additionally, they consistently rank high in “most recognizable characters” polls for the Mortal Kombat series. Granted, the idea of adding Mortal Kombat characters to Smash may seem far-fetched, but there is precedence with characters like Metal Gear Solid’s Snake or Bayonetta!

Blizzard employees previously expressed their desire for Diablo to join the Smash series, and numerous creatives have been voicing their “dream picks” either directly or indirectly with Nintendo.
These efforts have paid off, as demonstrated by Sora’s inclusion in Smash through a fortuitous encounter with a Disney representative.
