Nav Canada launches X (Twitter) account

Nav Canada, the not-for-profit organization in charge of air traffic in Canada, has expanded its social media presence to provide better communication about flight delays.

The new Nav Canada X account on Twitter will provide updates on delays at major Canadian airports, including Toronto Pearson Airport, Vancouver International Airport, Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, and Calgary International Airport.

In a statement to CBC, Nav Canada said, “We understand that delays can be frustrating for travelers, regardless of the cause. That’s why we are implementing a new communication protocol to ensure that air passengers have access to accurate and timely information.”

The company made its first posts about flight interruptions on July 28th, with weather being the cause of delays at Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport. However, the issue was quickly resolved, as indicated in the updates.

This social media expansion comes at a challenging time for Canada’s leading airlines. According to aviation analytics company Cirium, only 52 percent of all Air Canada flights were on time in June, while WestJet had a similar struggle with only 67 percent of on-time flights during the same period.

Previously, Nav Canada attributed delays to the need for more air traffic controllers, as reported by CBC. However, the company is actively working on training additional staff to address this issue.
