The recently-revealed new PS5 slimmer hardware revision requires an internet connection to pair the optional detachable disc drive.
Following numerous rumors about the new “slim” model, Sony finally announced a slimmer hardware revision of the PS5 console earlier this month. Although the model isn’t officially named “Slim”, the volume of the console has been reduced by more than 30%. Like the current PS5 models, Sony will launch two variants next month – a digital-only model and a disc-based version with a detachable Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive. We’ve included a trailer showing off these models with the new form factor below:
Yesterday, some images surfaced on the new PS5 model, which will be bundled with the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. This bundle is said to arrive on November 10th. Interestingly, the back of the box of the new PS5 bundle mentions an internet connection when setting up the detachable disc drive. “internet connection required to pair disc drive and PS5 console upon setup”, the back of the box reads. This is likely an anti-piracy measure from Sony, but one can imagine the fuss about this matter (thank you ResetEra):
