Ubisoft Massive’s highly anticipated open-world action game, Star Wars Outlaws, has just unveiled its thrilling gameplay trailer. The publisher provided key insights into the game’s captivating story, compelling characters, and the signature immersive maps that define Ubisoft’s brand. Leading the development is the talented team at Massive Entertainment, who have created an intergalactic heist experience set in the Outer Rim, amidst the Empire’s expanding control over the galaxy. Star Wars Outlaws was initially revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 11 and is set to launch in 2024 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
The extensive gameplay footage introduces us to Nix, an adorable axolotl-like alien, who mischievously swipes a rock-shaped artifact and cunningly hands it over to her partner-in-crime, Kay Vess (portrayed by the talented Humberly González). Kay, who has a bounty on her head due to a previous failed mission, and Nix showcase a remarkable bond, relying on each other’s unique skills for survival. The gameplay mechanics are reminiscent of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, where players can command Nix to execute actions, such as pressing buttons or creating distractions. Initially, the mission revolves around stealth, but soon escalates into an intense firefight. Kay skillfully switches between different blaster modules, enabling her to stun enemies or unleash devastating firepower to break through shields. While her trusty blaster serves as her primary weapon, she also takes advantage of various scattered weapons for quick eliminations.
Star Wars Outlaws presents an original story arc set between Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. The game follows Kay and Nix’s thrilling journey through the treacherous underworld as they undertake hazardous contracts and navigate intricate relationships with notorious crime syndicates. Their ultimate goal is to pull off the most audacious heist in the galaxy. Being an expansive open-world game, the trailer showcases Kay’s innovative traversal option – a hovering motorcycle with impressive capabilities. Equipped with a nitrous booster, it grants her a momentary burst of speed to evade enemies or swiftly reach destinations. Furthermore, it appears that Kay can temporarily slow down time while riding, similar to the iconic Dead Eye feature from Red Dead Redemption 2, allowing her to target enemies with precision and unload a hail of bullets upon them.
“In our game, you’ll have the opportunity to explore a galaxy teeming with possibilities by venturing into diverse locations throughout the Outer Rim. Each location boasts distinct biomes, captivating inhabitants, immersive narratives, and a wide range of gameplay experiences,” explained Julian Gerighty, the creative director of Star Wars Outlaws, in exclusive press footage. The game encompasses three pivotal experiences – bustling cities filled with NPCs and lively cantinas, vast open-world environments ripe for exploration, and thrilling space settings where intense dogfights ensue and hyperspace travel awaits. In Star Wars Outlaws, players will have the chance to pilot their own ship, the Trailblazer, which symbolizes freedom for Kay and enables her to embark on this extraordinary journey.
Star Wars Outlaws is scheduled to launch in 2024 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
