The recently released demo for Lies of P has garnered significant praise from players who have found delight in its robust combat systems. However, one particular aspect of the game has faced criticism: the dodge move. In response to player feedback regarding this essential gameplay mechanic, game director Jiwon Choi has announced plans to make changes to the dodge ability prior to the launch of Pinocchio Souls-like in September.
“In Lies of P, dodging and guarding are vital elements, complementing the P-Organ,” explained Choi. “Given the intricate structure of the game, it is crucial to meticulously handle these elements with utmost care. We are currently conducting a comprehensive evaluation of various aspects of the dodging system, including invincibility frames, distance mechanics, and more. Our diligent team of developers is fully dedicated to delivering an exceptional combat experience that not only preserves the essence of enjoyment but also exhibits the required precision in attention to detail.”
Later in the video, Choi also discussed upcoming improvements to the combat system. Fine-tuning of character movement, lock-on mechanics, and camera controls is underway, while the refinement of the “sensation of impactful hits” is being prioritized. Additionally, developer Neowiz is exploring adjustments to enemy movements, enabling players to intuitively respond to “off-beat” attacks. Choi expressed the aspiration of making Lies of P more inclusive for players, allowing them to embrace the Souls-like genre and find joy in playing the game.
On Steam, Lies of P has already generated significant interest, as the demo reached over a million downloads in just three days. Drawing inspiration from Bloodborne, the game incorporates various elements from the renowned From Software title. While Bloodborne has yet to receive a sequel or a 4K remaster, modders have started incorporating Bloodborne gear into Lies of P on PC.
