Red Dead Redemption 2 and Other PS4 Games Are Getting Unofficial 60 FPS PlayStation 5 Patches

There are numerous PlayStation 4 games that have yet to be updated to take advantage of the power of the PlayStation 5. Frustrated by this, some users have taken matters into their own hands and created unofficial 60 FPS patches for games like Red Dead Redemption 2.

Illusion showcased on Twitter how the open-world game by Rockstar Games can easily run at 60 FPS on a hacked PlayStation 5 console. Other titles, such as Gravity Rush 2, The Last Guardian, and The Order: 1886, also run smoothly at this frame rate. It’s baffling that developers and publishers haven’t done this themselves, considering how simple it is.

One notable game that can now run at 60 frames per second on the PlayStation 5 is Bloodborne. Lance McDonald recently ported an unofficial 60 FPS patch for the game. Unlike Red Dead Redemption 2, which can be played at 60 FPS on PC, Bloodborne’s situation is worse. The game is only available on PlayStation 4 and has unresolved performance and frame pacing issues.

While it’s up to Sony to update games like The Last Guardian and Gravity Rush 2, the responsibility falls on Take-Two and Rockstar Games to update Red Dead Redemption 2 for the PlayStation 5. It’s been reported that the publisher put the game’s current-gen update plans on hold, but it wouldn’t be surprising if they were revived to release a native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S version that would require users to pay for.
