Remnant II serves as the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed third-person shooter that gave the Soulslike genre a unique spin. The original game sold over three million units and quickly became a sleeper hit when it was made available for free on the Epic Games Store, accumulating over 10 million downloads in a short period of time.
For Remnant II, Gunfire Games has switched publishers, moving from Perfect World Entertainment to Gearbox Publishing. The game was first announced at The Game Awards 2022. Over time, the developers have revealed their plans for expanding upon the best features of the original game, with a particular focus on procedural generation. In a recent interview with Principal Level Designer Cindy To, some of the improvements implemented for this sequel were discussed.
In a recent update, Gunfire Games released a captivating new archetype reveal trailer.
The Hunter archetype focuses on precision-based long-range gameplay. Their perks are designed to ensure that every shot counts, with a particular emphasis on capitalizing on every opportunity. The key component of their kit is the Prime perk known as “Dead to Rights,” which allows the duration of the perk to be extended beyond its initial value when hitting ranged weak spots while a Hunter skill is active. In addition to the Prime perk, the Hunter possesses a unique ability called “Marking,” which grants the ability to see marked enemies through walls and increases their susceptibility to Critical Hits from the entire team.
Their first skill, Hunter’s Mark, instantly reveals and marks all enemies within a wide range while active. Every enemy becomes automatically marked for the entire team. With their second skill, Hunter’s Focus, their target becomes automatically marked when aiming down sights, as long as they remain focused without shooting. They gain significant bonuses to accuracy, damage, and critical chance while the buff remains active and the Hunter remains aiming. The Hunter’s third skill, Hunter Shroud, allows them to instantly vanish into the shadows, making it easier to avoid damage while moving. Their next attack, Drop Shroud, marks enemies within close range and grants a substantial ranged and melee damage buff.
If the Hunter refrains from attacking for a short duration, they will instantly re-shroud. To round out their kit, they possess the archetype trait “Long Shot,” which increases the effective range of all firearms.
The game features a multiclassing system, allowing players to mix and match two classes to create their own unique playstyle. Be sure to stay tuned to Wccftech for more updates on Remnant II leading up to its launch next week.
