After a lengthy dispute, The Medical City, one of the country’s leading hospitals, has finally reached a resolution. International venture capital firm CVC Capital Partners will now become the majority owner, holding a 60 percent stake in the hospital’s Philippine businesses.
The dispute involved Dr. Alfredo Bengzon, one of the founders of The Medical City, and hospital chair Jose Xavier “Eckie” Gonzales. However, both parties have maneuvered a solution, and Dr. Bengzon will return to the board as chairman emeritus to be recognized for his instrumental role in establishing and developing the institution.
Dr. Bengzon’s daughter-in-law, Margaret “Gaget” Bengzon, who previously held a key position at The Medical City, has moved on to become the chief operating officer for Healthway Hospitals, a subsidiary of AC Health within the Ayala Group.
Stakeholders are optimistic that this arrangement will allow the hospital to move forward with its plans. Only time will tell if this resolution proves successful.

Enrique Razon Jr. Makes Mark in Clark
Although billionaire Enrique Razon Jr. decided not to invest in Dennis Uy’s Clark businesses, he will still have a presence in the booming economic zone spanning Pampanga and Tarlac.
Razon’s Bloomberry Foundation will fully fund the construction of a new medical facility in the former US base in Clark, with a budget of P500 million. The initial building will serve as a general hospital, eventually transitioning into a children’s hospital as the project progresses. The complex, master-planned by Bloomberry, will also include a heart center, a lung center, a kidney center, and a cancer institute.
Clearly, Razon will be making a mark in Clark after all.
