Directors Danny and Michael Philippou of the A24 horror film Talk to Me are sharing their thoughts on a sequel and where to go next.
We live in a world where sequels are always a factor for Hollywood because, financially, it tends to be the most reliable option. However, it can sometimes be disappointing when a remarkable project is overplayed. Nevertheless, there are instances where solid franchises, like Scream, Star Trek, John Wick, and others, have emerged from these repeated releases and become mainstream hits.
While horror franchises are common, it’s not always the case for celebrated production companies like A24. Despite their popularity, films like Hereditary and Midsommar didn’t lead to sequels. However, the directors of the recent A24 film Talk to Me are sharing their thoughts on potentially creating a sequel to their buzz-worthy new film, along with the biggest sequel dilemma they face.
Would the Talk to Me Directors Be Open to Creating a Sequel?
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s directors addressed the possibility of future sequels to Talk to Me. Danny Philippou first expresses his mixed feelings, stating, “Part of me is like, ‘Yeah, maybe it is done.'” However, he also shares his strong desire for a sequel, stating, “The other part of me is like, ‘Oh, my God. Give me a sequel, please.’ I’ve envisioned these incredible set pieces that I desperately want to shoot. If A24 approached me and said, ‘We want a sequel,’ I couldn’t resist. I would be so excited to do it.”
His brother and co-director Michael Philippou then adds to the conversation by discussing the debate around whether to continue the story with Mia and the existing characters or explore another part of the world.
