Tears Of The Kingdom’ loading screens among Nintendo’s newest patents

Nintendo has recently obtained several patents, with almost all of them related to features, loading screens, and mechanics from the highly anticipated game, The Legend of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom.

According to a report by Automaton Media , out of the 32 patents made public between July 10 and August 2, 31 of them are specifically related to Tears Of The Kingdom. One of the patents focuses on Ultrahand, a device that prevents the player from selecting the object they are standing on. Additionally, it explains that Ultrahand will not work on objects connected to the surface Link is standing on.

Another patent describes how the player interacts with objects while riding with Link across the game world. When Link is on a moving object, the character will move in the same direction and at the same speed as the object, regardless of player input on the Switch.

The patent states, “When the player’s character and a dynamic object come in contact in the downward direction relative to the character (in other words, when the character is on top of an object), the movement of the dynamic object is added to the movement of the player’s character.”

However, what sets Nintendo’s solution apart is that it doesn’t rely on physics to make Link move in the same direction as the object. This showcases Nintendo’s innovative approach to game design.

In addition to these mechanics, Nintendo has also patented the loading screens that appear when players choose to fast travel within the game. The patent describes it as “a game processing method capable of enriching game presentation during a waiting period in which at least part of the game processing is interrupted.”

Lastly, Nintendo hopes to patent the footprint mode for the Tears Of The Kingdom map. This feature allows players to visually track their journey on the in-game map and discover areas they have not yet traveled to.

In other gaming news, Diablo 4 has experienced a significant decline in its peak viewership on Twitch from June to August.
