The Significance of the Secret Invasion Timeline Unveiled

Disney recently debuted the first episode of their highly anticipated series, “Secret Invasion,” on Disney Plus. This show immediately takes a toll on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with its intriguing storyline. The narrative revolves around a group of disgruntled Skrulls who arrived on Earth in “Captain Marvel.” These Skrull rebels are dissatisfied with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) for failing to find them a new home. Consequently, the rebels plan to make Earth their new residence, leading to a conflict.

Although we are still in the early stages of the TV show, we have already learned valuable information about the Skrulls, suggesting that we may encounter them again in the future. Furthermore, Marvel has revealed the placement of “Secret Invasion” in the MCU timeline, which is a significant detail. However, be forewarned that major spoilers will be discussed in the following paragraphs.

If you visit Disney Plus and navigate to the MCU chronological order, you will find “Secret Invasion” and its position in the broader Marvel timeline.

The events of “Secret Invasion” occur sometime after the release of “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.” This movie, scheduled to be the first MCU film of the year, primarily takes place in the Quantum realm, a realm unaffected by time. Before “Ant-Man 3,” however, viewers will be treated to “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special,” a film set during the Christmas holiday in the MCU’s 2025 timeline.

Based on this information, it is highly likely that “Quantumania” takes place in 2026. Therefore, the events depicted in “Secret Invasion” also occur in 2026. While we don’t have a precise date, we can expect to learn more details in the near future.

Another important revelation is that “The Marvels,” set to premiere in November, will be intertwined with the events of “Secret Invasion.”

As I have frequently emphasized, understanding the chronological placement of each standalone MCU story is crucial, particularly in relation to “Endgame.” This aspect is even more essential for the success of “Secret Invasion.”

This isn’t the Nick Fury you know

An intriguing aspect of the plot in “Secret Invasion” revolves around Nick Fury. However, this version of Fury is not the same beloved character we are familiar with. During his prime, Fury was a formidable super spy who would have handled a Skrull invasion without hesitation. Unfortunately, the events of “Infinity War” and “Endgame,” particularly Thanos’ attack on Earth, significantly impacted Fury’s mental state.

Fury’s death in “Infinity War” and subsequent resurrection five years later revealed the loss of two of his closest allies: Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.). Additionally, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) has disappeared.

Instead of confronting these harsh realities as a top spy, Agent Fury decided to retreat to space where he focuses on constructing SABRE, Earth’s most advanced defense system. This information is gleaned from “Secret Invasion.”

Fury’s absence dates back to at least “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” set in the summer of 2024. Notably, the Battle of Avengers Headquarters in “Endgame” occurs in October 2023.

Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) reaches out to Fury for assistance in dealing with the Skrull threat. However, she harbors some resentment towards her former ally and friend for failing to maintain contact over the years. Hill recognizes that Fury hasn’t been the same since the events with Thanos and worries about his readiness to fight this secret battle.

Unfortunately, Hill’s concerns about the safety of others prove to be valid, as she ends up being killed by Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir), who poses as Fury in the first episode of “Secret Invasion.”

In summary, Fury has been off-world for nearly three
