The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Edition Physical Release Set for January 26: Details

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s next-generation edition is set to receive a physical release this week. Starting from January 26, gamers around the globe, including India, will be able to purchase boxed versions of the critically acclaimed RPG for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. This announcement follows the release of the long-awaited next-gen update (now referred to as current-gen) of the game in December, which was initially available as a digital upgrade for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. Notable enhancements include improved visuals with ray-tracing support, a photo mode, faster load times on consoles, and the inclusion of various mods.

India is among the first countries, along with the US, the UK, France, and most of Europe, to receive the physical copies of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s new-generation versions. Pre-orders in India are now open on GamesTheShop, priced at Rs. 2,999 for either platform. On January 26, Jordan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon will receive only the PS5 version. Australia and New Zealand will have their turn on January 27, while South American countries will receive the game on January 31. Japan is scheduled to receive the PS5 version on February 9, with the release date for Brazil yet to be determined. For more information on availability, visit the official CD Projekt Red website.

The latest version of The Witcher 3 brings a plethora of visual enhancements and quality-of-life improvements to captivate a new generation of gamers. Both the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X versions offer graphics settings that allow players to choose between a performance mode with 60fps or a quality mode with 30fps, prioritizing visual fidelity. (Ray tracing is not available for the Series S version.) The edition also incorporates content inspired by Netflix’s The Witcher series, a long-awaited addition from CD Projekt Red, which introduces a unique questline. Completing this questline rewards players with gear inspired by Henry Cavill’s portrayal of the character in the show, as well as optional costumes for other main characters and the Nilfgaardian soldiers. Additionally, the inclusion of a highly customizable photo mode, similar to the one in Cyberpunk 2077, adds to the immersive experience.

Character models have been significantly improved throughout the game, and players can now use an optional over-the-shoulder camera for Geralt, reminiscent of titles like God of War (2018) and Batman: Arkham Knight. The game also incorporates map filters to eliminate unwanted question marks or icons on the map, drawing inspiration from open-world titles such as Elden Ring and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The reduction of map markers adds a sense of wonder and curiosity when exploring The Continent. Furthermore, players can now pause the game during cutscenes, a feature that was absent in the original release.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen update is now available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. Physical (CD) editions will be available from January 26 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
