The solution to today’s Wordle puzzle (#512 – November 13, 2022) is inane. If something is inane or someone behaves inanely, they’re showing a lack of depth or substance. The word is mostly used as an adjective, but it is acceptable as a noun as well, so you could say a promising conversation veered off into the inane. The word has a very succinct etymology — it traces back to an original Latin word “inanis” which means empty or void (via Etymonline).
We solved the puzzle one step faster than WordleBot today. Our opening guess word, hoist, was unlucky — there were still 243 possible options! But after guessing the word diner next, that number went down to three, and then we made a correct (and lucky) third guess. That makes it the second day in a row that we’ll have a three-try triumph.
