Pokémon TCG Japan’s upcoming expansion, “Ruler of the Black Flame,” set to release on July 28th, will feature the Togepi line, with a holographic Togekiss as the highlight.
We are starting to gather more information and card reveals for the next set of the “Scarlet & Violet” era in Pokémon TCG Japan. “Ruler of the Black Flame,” centered around Charizard, will consist of 108 cards (excluding Secret Rare cards). This expansion introduces Tera Pokémon with a Tera type that differs from their standard typing. Notably, we will see this on the Dark-type Tera Charizard ex, as well as the Fire-type Tera Eiscue ex and Electric-type Tera Tyranitar ex. It has been confirmed that “Ruler of the Black Flame” will be part of the English-language Pokémon TCG set, “Scarlet & Violet – Obsidian Flames,” scheduled for release in August 2023. The set is expected to combine with cards from the upcoming Japanese ex Starter Decks and remaining cards from other Japanese sets this year. Today, let’s explore the Togepi line from this set.
Togepi takes center stage in the “Ruler of the Black Flame” expansion, represented as Psychic-types (since the Fairy-type Energy is currently retired).
Togepi is beautifully illustrated by Natsumi Yoshida in a cute, cartoony style, admiring flowers. Kyoko Umemoto portrays a joyful Togetic flying toward us from a floral bush with a smile plastered on its face. Lastly, Cona Nitanda brings us a holographic Togekiss with delicate use of colors that will undoubtedly complement the holographic pattern of this era.
The “Scarlet & Violet” era has dedicated more attention to Baby Pokémon compared to recent eras, a welcome change in my opinion. We eagerly await the possibility of a Togepi Illustration Rare, which would be a remarkable moment.
Japanese sets often provide insights into what English-language sets may include, so stay tuned for our coverage. Make sure to catch previews of “Scarlet & Violet” cards and all updates related to the Pokémon TCG right here at Bleeding Cool.
