The Most Unbelievable Shot of the US Open
Cameron Young has undoubtedly secured the award for the most extraordinary shot of the US Open tournament, with a day still to go. Young’s tee shot on the par-4 10th hole veered off course, landing perfectly in the ball holder located in a cart used by an on-course presenter. This freakish occurrence left spectators in awe, with many suggesting that Young should play the ball where it lay. However, after the cart was moved, Young was given permission to remove the ball and take a free drop.
Despite his initial mishap, Young demonstrated skill and composure. His second shot went over the green, but he managed to salvage a par with an impressive up and down. With a final score of two-under 68, Young currently sits at even par for the tournament, tied for 20th place.
Meanwhile, Min Woo Lee, an Australian player, started the day within striking distance of the lead but struggled, finishing with a four-over 74. This score pushed him down the leaderboard.
Another notable player, Xander Schauffele, encountered a nightmare start to his day. It took him three shots to escape a fairway bunker on the opening hole, resulting in a bogey. Schauffele’s tee shot found its way into a bunker on the left side of the fairway, and subsequent shots rebounded off the bunker lip multiple times. Nevertheless, Schauffele persevered and ultimately holed a two-meter bogey putt. Despite this setback, he remains determined to make a comeback in the final round.
The leaderboard is currently shared by Ricky Fowler and Wyndham Clark after the third round. Fowler secured a crucial birdie with a remarkable 30-meter putt, only to be followed by Clark’s birdie on the last hole. Fowler, however, missed a short par putt on the final hole, ending the day with an even-par 70. Meanwhile, Clark finished with a solid 69 to maintain his co-leader position.
Rory McIlroy is still in contention, trailing the co-leaders by only one shot. With a score of 69, McIlroy is well-positioned for the final round. He will be playing alongside world No.1, Scottie Scheffler, in the second-to-last group.
Scheffler closed out the round on a strong note, with an eagle on the 17th hole and a birdie on the 18th. His incredible 7-iron shot from approximately 180 meters on the challenging 17th hole greatly contributed to his two-under 68 score.
The final round of the US Open is set to commence early Monday morning AEST. Stay updated with the latest breaking news and exclusive content from Wide World of Sports by subscribing to our newsletter here!
