Why I’m Considering Watching NASA+, a Rare Free Streaming Service

The streaming market is already saturated with free services like Tubi, Pluto TV, Crackle, and Freevee. However, the latest addition is truly captivating. NASA made an exciting announcement on Thursday, revealing plans to update its entire online presence. This includes revitalizing its flagship and science websites, as well as introducing a new on-demand streaming service called NASA+.

Jeff Seaton, NASA’s Chief Information Officer, expressed the agency’s vision to inspire humanity through a unified and world-class web experience. The existing NASA website is functional but desperately needs a refresh. By modernizing the technology and enhancing user engagement, NASA aims to make their agency’s information more accessible, discoverable, and secure.

If you haven’t visited NASA’s website in a while, you’ll definitely notice the outdated aesthetic. But even if you’re not a frequent visitor, the launch of NASA+ might pique your interest:

NASA describes their new on-demand streaming service as “ad-free, cost-free, and family-friendly.” Besides live coverage of launches and events, NASA+ will offer original video series focused on the agency’s mission, some of which will be available upon its launch.

Marc Etkind, Associate Administrator of NASA’s Office of Communications, expresses excitement about transforming NASA’s digital presence to better highlight their exploration of the unknown, inspiration through discovery, and innovation for the benefit of humanity.

NASA+ will be accessible on various major platforms through the NASA app, which is available on iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, and Fire TV. Additionally, once the new website is launched, users will have the option to stream NASA+ from their desktop and mobile browsers.

If you’re eager to explore the new website, you can already take it for a spin at beta.nasa.gov.
