Xplore lights up new 5G towers for wireless home internet in Ontario

Rural broadband provider Xplore has made a significant update to its Ontario towers, implementing 5G technology. This enhancement enables Xplore to offer home internet services with impressive speeds of up to 100Mbps.

Xplore shared this exciting news through a post on its Twitter account. The company emphasized that seven Ontario communities will directly benefit from the launch of 5G. Residents of these communities are encouraged to contact Xplore at 1-866-841-6001 to learn more about this cutting-edge service.

However, Xplore’s efforts to connect Canadians extend beyond 5G. The company recently launched the JUPITER 3 satellite, a revolutionary communications satellite that will enable internet access in rural areas of Canada. This satellite, which is the largest of its kind, was successfully deployed into space using a SpaceX rocket. Notably, SpaceX is the same company responsible for Starlink, another innovative satellite internet service that has gained popularity in Canada.

In the fall, Xplore plans to provide internet speeds of 100Mbps for downloading and 10Mbps for uploading through satellite connectivity. Unlike Starlink, Xplore is committed to providing free hardware for its satellite internet service (although there may be conversion or installation fees). On the other hand, Starlink’s hardware costs $759 but has been discounted to $199 in Canada since May.

Furthermore, there is a key distinction between the two providers. Starlink utilizes low earth orbit (LEO) satellites, resulting in lower latency due to shorter signal travel distance. In contrast, Xplore relies on geosynchronous equatorial orbit (GEO) satellites, also known as geostationary satellites. The pricing details for Xplore’s service have not been disclosed yet, but Starlink’s service currently comes at a cost of $140 per month.
