Your favorite Android versions are the most recent ones

There have been loads of Android versions over the years since the original 1.0 release, with each bringing important features and changes to the table.

Do Android Authority readers have a favorite version of Android though? That’s what we wanted to find out when we posted a poll last week. Here’s how you voted in that survey.

What’s your favorite version of Android?

Results

Over 2,100 votes were counted after we posted the poll on January 12, and it turns out that 36% of respondents said Android 12 was their favorite version of Android. This was the runaway favorite, with second-placed Android 11 accounting for 17.4%.

Rounding out the top three is Android 10, accounting for 10.45% of the votes. In other words, the three most recent Android versions all made up the top three.

We’re guessing there’s some recency bias here or that many voters didn’t have a smartphone until recent years. Of course, the other alternative is that many polled readers actually experienced plenty of other Android versions but still think Android 12 is their favorite.

We can understand choosing Android 12 though, as it introduces the Material You aesthetic along with new widgets, revised quick settings tiles, more privacy tweaks, a one-handed mode, and scrolling screenshots (finally). So there are plenty of reasons for it to garner votes.

Every Android version from Pie and earlier received less than 5% of the vote, with the exception of KitKat (6.1%) and Lollipop (5.9%) which accounted for fourth and fifth places respectively.

  • CR45H 0V3RR1D3: I voted for kitkat, it was the last major UI overhaul that wasn’t riddled with bugs, like A12. Which is why I find it humorous that most people chose 12. I’m using it on a Pixel and it’s still trash, so I can imagine how janky it is on other devices.
  • Stanley Kubrick: My favorite version is the ONE THAT WORKS!
  • scottmdj: Android 9. Because I have an LG V40 and that audiophile phone loses a lot of its prowess (namely *pure* DSD playback) when you upgrade beyond 9 thanks to some kind of dumb issue between Google and LG.
  • simp: It has to be Oreo, it was the last version before Google started butchering the Quick Settings panel and made it worse version after version. From removing the Wifi and Bluetooth switcher in Pie, to decreasing the density in 11 and the abominable combined Internet tile in 12, Oreo was the peak.

Thanks for voting in this poll and for leaving a comment! Are there any Android versions that you simply didn’t like at all? Let us know below.
