534 Attempts Later, This Guitar Hero Streamer Perfectly Nails Free Bird At 300% Speed

Do you think you have lightning-fast fingers when playing Guitar Hero? Well, let’s see if you can keep up with a classic Lynyrd Skynyrd track that has been ramped up to 300% speed on expert difficulty. This challenge required streamer Carny Jared to make hundreds of attempts before successfully completing the song without missing a single note.

Any Free Bird enthusiasts know that the track starts off seemingly simple, but around the halfway mark, the 1974 song kicks into high gear with intense dueling guitars. When translated into Guitar Hero 2 gameplay, your TV screen becomes a vibrant and fast-paced spectacle.

“This accomplishment is the result of months of hard work,” wrote Jared in the description that captured his triumphant moment. “It took 533 full combo runs to reach the solo and countless hours of frustration, but I’ve finally shattered the Free Bird world record.”

According to Jared, the previous world record for Guitar Hero 2 had the song playing at 235% speed on expert mode. For his next challenge, Jared plans to tackle Guitar Hero 3 and its legendary finger-shredding track, “Through the Fire and Flames.”

The Guitar Hero franchise has been dormant since the release of its last game, Guitar Hero Live, in 2015. While the online component of that game was shut down, taking 200 songs with it, the future of the franchise is not completely bleak. Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick has expressed the possibility of reviving Guitar Hero, especially if Microsoft completes its acquisition of the company, which would provide more resources to give the musical series a new twist.
