6 Tips to Avoid Fungal Infections During Monsoon Season, According to Expert

A good way to prevent infections is to use cotton towels that can be washed and dried every day.

Because of its damp nature, the rainy season puts us in danger of contracting some fungal illnesses.

Our body and skin’s requirements change with the seasons. In the summer, we seek freshness and hydration, while in the winter, we need more moisture. Similarly, during the humid monsoon, we need to adapt to the weather conditions. The rainy season, due to its dampness, exposes us to the risk of fungal infections. Dermatologist Aanchal Panth addresses this issue and provides simple precautions.

6 tips to prevent fungal infection in monsoons:

Firstly, Dr. Panth recommends drying body folds after bathing. These include the armpits, knee joints, neck, etc. Moisture trapped in these body folds creates an ideal environment for fungal growth. Using a highly absorbent cotton towel to quickly soak up excess water is a convenient method. Additionally, wearing loose-fitting cotton clothes allows sweat to evaporate faster, while avoiding denim for those with a history of fungal infections.

Thirdly, it is important to change clothes immediately after exercising. Allowing sweat to dry out before changing increases the risk of fungal infections, especially after cardio exercises.

Fourthly, daily washing and ironing of towels is essential to prevent infections. Using cotton towels that can be washed and dried daily significantly reduces the formation of fungal growth on the fabric.

Fifthly, Dr. Panth recommends washing and ironing undergarments daily. The lining of undergarments is a common source of fungal re-infection. Regular washing helps prevent moisture buildup in these garments.

Lastly, it is advised to avoid using steroid creams for fungal infections, as they can worsen the condition. Instead, consulting a specialist doctor for a permanent solution is recommended.
