Parampara – An Annual Guru Purnima Special Presented by The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre

A two-day special on 30th June and 1st July, the celebration will take place 7.30pm onwards at the Cultural Centre’s 2000-seater performing arts space – The Grand Theatre.

As a tribute the timeless legacy of the guru-shishya bond, ‘Parampara – A Guru Purnima Special’ brings together the finest maestros of Indian Classical music and their illustrious disciples.

After the successful international Broadway musical ‘The Sound of Music,’ the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre presents an annual celebration called ‘Parampara – A Guru Purnima Special.’ This year, the event brings together the most talented maestros of Indian Classical music and their renowned disciples. It is an annual tribute to the timeless bond between gurus and shishyas, guided by Mrs. Nita Ambani’s vision of showcasing the best of India to the world and vice versa.

The celebration will take place over two days on 30th June and 1st July, starting at 7.30pm, at the Cultural Centre’s Grand Theatre, a 2000-seater performing arts space known for hosting landmark productions. It has previously showcased ‘The Great Indian Musical: Civilization to Nation’ and the international Broadway musical ‘The Sound of Music.’

Over the course of two days, the audience will witness extraordinary performances by legendary flautist Padma Vibhushan Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia and his nephew Rakesh Chaurasia, sarod maestro Padma Vibhushan Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and his sons Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash, as well as sitar stalwart Pt. Kartick Kumar and his son Niladri Kumar. These esteemed musicians will showcase a rare exploration of music and spirituality.

Day 1: June 30, 7.30pm onwards

Act 1: Enchanting Sitars

Experience evocative Indian Classical compositions presented by sitar maestro Pt. Kartick Kumar and his son, sitar player and innovative musician Niladri Kumar. This musical journey of learning and unlearning captures the essence of Guru Purnima, showcasing a father-son and guru-shishya relationship. The performance features hand-picked evergreen compositions and fusion sets with a contemporary flavor, celebrating India’s Classical heritage.

Act 2: Divine Flutes

Immerse yourself in the pristine renditions of living legend Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, a celebrated flautist, and his nephew Rakesh Chaurasia. ‘Divine Flutes’ will take you on a journey mirroring the endless ripple of musical and spiritual treasures passed down through generations.

Day 2: July 1, 7.30pm onwards

Three Generations, One Legacy

Experience a momentous sarod recital featuring Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and his sons Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash, joined by the 8th generation of the family – Ustad’s grandsons, 10-year-old twins Zohaan and Abeer Ali Bangash. Witness three generations of a musical lineage captivating the audience, showcasing the real-life journey of guru and shishyas. This unique live ensemble is a tribute to iconic musical compositions.
