Why Truecaller has reintroduced call recording, even if you can’t access it just yet – The explanation

Truecaller, the popular caller identification app, has recently reintroduced its call recording feature for users. This AI-powered feature is now available for both iPhone and Android users in the US, with plans for a global rollout in the coming months.

With the new AI-powered call recording feature, Truecaller users can capture both sides of their calls with exceptional clarity. The app also offers summarized transcriptions of these recordings, making it easy for users to navigate and search for specific information.

Each transcription is accompanied by a brief subject line, thanks to Large Language Model (LLM) technology. This allows users to quickly and accurately search within their transcriptions, eliminating the need to manually sift through hours of recordings.

Raphael Mimoun, Cloud Telephony Product Director at Truecaller, highlighted the inspiration behind this new feature. He explained that advancements in Language Learning Models (LLMs) have paved the way for a redefined call recording experience. The goal is to enable users to efficiently manage their calls, record conversations, and easily retrieve and utilize the recorded content.

To address the recording limitations on Apple iOS, Truecaller has introduced a workaround. iPhone users can make calls through the Truecaller app and merge the calls to begin recording. Additionally, Truecaller ensures the privacy of its users’ recordings by locally storing them on their devices.

For Apple iPhone users, Truecaller offers the option to backup recordings to iCloud storage to prevent any loss. Android users, on the other hand, have the choice to backup their recordings to Google Drive.

Truecaller also has some exciting plans for future additions to the call recording feature. These include an AI-generated summary of the recording and a short call title.
