MANILA – Kaya Founders, a local venture capital firm, has secured an additional $12 million in funding to support technology startups in Southeast Asia. The funds come at a time when there is a rapid shift towards digital platforms in the region. The company aims to raise a total of $25 million to invest in early-stage startups in Southeast Asia. Kaya Founders now has $16.5 million of capital under management.
The co-founder of Kaya Founders, Paulo Campos, compared the tech scene in the Philippines to the growth narratives seen in markets like India and Indonesia. He believes the surge in these countries’ technology sectors was driven by factors such as favorable demographics, supportive government policies, and a critical mass of tech talent.
The recent capital raise was led by the Gokongwei family, with participation from institutional investors, family offices, high-net-worth individuals, and prominent entrepreneurs. Kaya Founders plans to go on a global roadshow to seek investment opportunities in emerging markets.
Founded in 2021 by angel investors Paulo Campos, Lisa Gokongwei-Cheng, and Constantin Robertz, Kaya Founders currently has a portfolio of 31 companies in various sectors including e-commerce, digital health, financial technology, agriculture technology, and property technology.
