TF Con, the Transformers Comic Con being held in Orlando, Florida has decided to reverse its previous policy on cross-dressing cosplay.
TF Con, the Transformers Comic Con set to be held in Orlando, Florida from October 20th to the 22nd, 2023, is anticipated to have special appearances by Robert Kirkman, Daniel Warren Johnson, and Skybound, who will be promoting the launch of the new Transformers comic book line published by Image Comics. However, before deciding on their cosplay, they may want to consider the updated policy.
The TF Con website originally stated that due to Florida state law, cross-dressing would not be permitted as part of the cosplay contest or at the convention. However, after receiving feedback and reconsidering the matter, they now believe that cosplay at the convention would not violate any Florida state laws. TF Con aims to create a welcoming environment for all fans and does not tolerate any form of harassment. If any members of the LBGTQ+ community who have purchased tickets feel unsafe attending TFcon Orlando, they have been encouraged to request a refund via email at [email protected].
While other shows have faced similar concerns, it remains uncertain how these events will handle the issue. This decision by TF Con may serve as a precedent for upcoming comic conventions throughout the summer.
Additionally, it is worth noting that the furry convention Megaplex, scheduled to take place in Orlando in September, has announced that this year’s convention will not be open to individuals under the age of 18 due to legal reasons and the protection of attendees and the venue. Megaplex has traditionally welcomed younger fandom members and their families, and this change is viewed as temporary, with hopes of returning to an all-ages event next year.
Upcoming conventions such as Anime Festival Orlando 2023, Bold Matsuri, and the Cosplay Central Crown Championships are also taking precautions by holding separate cosplay events for different age groups.
