Report: Samsung Galaxy S23 Series Receives June 2023 Security Patch, Bringing Camera Enhancements

The Samsung Galaxy S23 series, featuring the Android 13-based One UI 5.1 skin, was launched in February of this year. Recent reports suggest that these flagship smartphones have now begun receiving the June 2023 Android security patch. Along with the update, the latest firmware brings a new 2x portrait option to the camera app and addresses autofocus issues. Additionally, the update includes several stability improvements and bug fixes. Currently, eligible Samsung Galaxy S23 series smartphones in select South East Asian markets are receiving the update, which has a file size of 2.2GB.

Changes in the Samsung Galaxy S23 update

According to a report by SamMobile, the update for the Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra with firmware version S91xBXXU2AWF1 is rolling out to devices in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand. This update brings the June 2023 Android security patch and introduces a new 2x zoom option in the camera app’s Portrait mode, in addition to general bug fixes and improvements to One UI.

The update, which is 2.2GB in size, specifically addresses autofocus issues and makes changes to the Night mode feature. Furthermore, the Galaxy S23 series models now have subtle improvements in haptics. It is expected that this update will also include fixes for the camera blur issue that was acknowledged by the company earlier this month.

As per the report, eligible Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra units should receive the update automatically over the air. However, users in the aforementioned regions can manually check for the update by going to Settings > Software update > Download and Install. It is recommended that users update their phones while connected to a strong Wi-Fi network and a charger. The update is anticipated to roll out to more regions in the coming days.

The Galaxy S23 was launched in India in February during the Galaxy Unpacked event, with a starting price of Rs. 74,999 for the base 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant. These devices are powered by a customized version of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and feature Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays. The handsets also come with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on the front.
