Airlines’ Fuel Surcharges Remain Unchanged for July, Announces CAB

In July, airline passengers will continue to pay the lowest fuel surcharge for this year, according to the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB).

The fuel surcharge will remain at Level 4 for the second consecutive month, as announced by the regulator. The CAB has reduced the rates three times previously due to lower fuel prices.

Under Level 4, passengers will still be charged an additional amount ranging from P117 to P342 for domestic flights and P385.70 to P2,867.82 for international flights.

Fuel surcharges are additional fees that airlines charge to compensate for fuel costs. These fees are separate from the base fare, which is the actual amount paid by passengers for their seats.

For Level 4, passengers flying to Caticlan, Legaspi, Kalibo, and Roxas will be charged an additional P184, while those flying to Laoag, Iloilo, Bacolod, Cebu, and Puerto Princesa will pay P232 in fuel surcharge.

Airlines are collecting a fuel surcharge of P296 for flights to Dumaguete, Tagbilaran, Siargao, and Cagayan, and P318 for flights to Zamboanga, Cotabato, and Davao.

For flights to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Cambodia, the applicable fuel surcharge will be P385.70; for China, P523.68; and for Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia, P533.42.

Passengers flying to Indonesia, Japan, and South Korea will pay a fuel surcharge of P600; for Australia and the Middle East, P1,327.14; and for North America and the United Kingdom, P2,731.26.

The airlines have welcomed the decrease in fuel surcharges as it is expected to encourage more passenger movement.

In response to the increased travel demand following the relaxation of mobility restrictions, local airlines have been offering seat sales and increasing their flight capacities.

Philippine Airlines (PAL), for example, is operating more non-stop special flights to Medina in Western Saudi Arabia to cater to Filipinos participating in the Hajj pilgrimage this month. PAL is using its 363-seater Airbus A330 for this route.

“We at PAL recognize the importance of the Hajj to our Muslim brothers and sisters in the Philippines. As the country’s flag carrier, we support this mission,” said Stanley Ng, PAL’s president and chief operating officer.
