IndiGo has recently made an announcement that they have placed an order for 500 Airbus A320 Family aircraft, making it the largest-ever single aircraft purchase by any airline with Airbus.
The airline stated that the delivery of these planes will be spread out between 2030 and 2035, providing IndiGo with a steady stream of deliveries for several years.
IndiGo also mentioned that the engine selection for these planes will be finalized at a later date, and the order will consist of a combination of A320 and A321 aircraft.
The purchase agreement between IndiGo and Airbus was signed at the Paris Air Show 2023. Currently, IndiGo operates over 300 aircraft and has additional orders for 480 aircraft that are yet to be delivered. These orders include a mix of A320NEO, A321NEO, and A321XLR aircraft.
IndiGo’s purchase of 500 Airbus planes comes after Air India, under Tata Group, also made a significant order for 470 aircraft from Boeing and Airbus.
This new order strengthens the strategic relationship between IndiGo and Airbus, and both parties are excited about contributing to the growth of India’s air connectivity. The CEO of IndiGo expressed his satisfaction with the order and emphasized the company’s belief in the growth of India and its partnership with Airbus.
The fuel-efficient A320NEO Family aircraft will help IndiGo maintain low operating costs and high fuel efficiency. The exact engine selection and aircraft mix will be determined in the future. With this order, IndiGo’s total order book reaches almost 1,000 aircraft for delivery until the next decade.
