Leaked content from Beyond the Spider-Verse potentially ruins a major twist in the plot

Undoubtedly, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the most thrilling superhero film of the summer, a movie that I’d gladly watch multiple times. Nestled between Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Flash, this second installment in the Spider-Verse series continues the captivating story of Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) and leaves us with a brilliant cliffhanger. We’ll have to wait nine months to see how it all concludes, but a potential major plot twist from the upcoming sequel Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse may have already been leaked.

Before we proceed any further, I must warn you that there are significant spoilers ahead, so it’s better to watch Across the Spider-Verse first before reading on.

Is Across the Spider-Verse connected to Spider-Man 4?

As I anticipated Across the Spider-Verse, my biggest concern was whether Sony would compromise Marvel’s multiverse with its own interpretation. However, I soon discovered that there are easy ways to connect this film to the MCU, and the TV show Loki provides the key. Moreover, an insider revealed that Marvel and Sony had indeed collaborated on the Into the Spider-Verse sequel to ensure that its story is considered canon in the MCU.

It’s also possible that characters from the Spider-Verse might make appearances in other MCU movies, including Spider-Man 4 and Avengers: Secret Wars. Rumors suggest that Miles Morales will join the MCU, and Sony has confirmed that a live-action Miles Morales film is in development.

However, the cliffhanger at the end of Across the Spider-Verse may not have anything to do with Spider-Man 4. Or, if it does, it’s not immediately apparent. Instead, the cliffhanger sets the stage perfectly for the continuation of the story in Beyond the Spider-Verse, which will premiere in March.

In Spider-Verse 2, our main Miles is transported to Earth-42, the reality from which the radioactive spider that bit him originated. In this universe, there is no Spider-Man because the spider followed a different timeline.

However, Miles-42, also known as Earth-42’s Morales, becomes the Prowler of that universe. This sets the stage for the second part of the story and builds anticipation for the resolution in Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Here comes another big plot twist

That cliffhanger at the end of Across the Spider-Verse is certainly shocking as we witness Miles facing an unexpected conflict. He has to fight himself in a reality where the Sinister Six cartel rules the world. In this reality, there is no Spider-Man or other heroes to combat the threat. I previously discussed convenient plot holes in Across the Spider-Verse, and the absence of heroes to fight villains is one of them.

However, like many others, I may have made a wrong assumption. It is not necessarily true that Miles-42 is a villain. A series of tweets from various sources made me realize this.

First, insider CanWeGetToast stated that we can expect a “LOT” of Earth-42 action in Beyond the Spider-Verse. This Marvel secrets leaker explained how a world without Spider-Man leads to the rise of the Sinister Six cartel and what Miles-42, as the Prowler, must do to survive in such a world.

A different insider retweeted this information, confirming the connection between the Spider-Verse story and the MCU multiverse. Furthermore, the insider responded with a simple “Bingo” when someone speculated that Miles-42 is a good guy fighting the Sinister Six because they had killed his father.

Such a plot twist in Beyond the Spider-Verse would be remarkable. It would allow Sony to showcase a conflict between Spider-Man and the Sinister Six, something that was only glimpsed in No Way Home. Additionally, it is unlikely that Miles-42 is a villain in the upcoming story. We already have The Spot as the primary antagonist, along with Miguel O’Hara, who is not necessarily a good version of Spider-Man. Let’s not forget the similarities between Lyla and Loki’s Miss Minutes.

In other words, Miles could use all the help he can get, and having a Prowler on his side wouldn’t hurt.

Interestingly, the person who suggested that Miles-42 might be a good guy responded to a comment from Kemp Powers, co-director of Across the Spider-Verse. Powers mentioned that there is a lot to learn about that Prowler in the cliffhanger and advised viewers not to judge a book by its cover.
