Whether it’s bonding over a movie song or attending a local indie gig on a date, music plays a significant role in our dating lives. In anticipation of World Music Day, a new study conducted by Bumble reveals that the majority (91%) of surveyed Indians believe that music helps foster strong connections. Additionally, 89% of Indians surveyed find someone with the same taste in music more attractive.

  • Let music do the talking: 92% of Indians surveyed believe that music allows them to express their feelings or thoughts that they struggle to put into words.
  • Sharing playlists as a love language: Sharing your sacred playlist with a potential love interest is a significant step in a relationship. According to 88% of Indians surveyed, sharing music and playlists is their love language.
  • Music matters: 74% of Indians surveyed believe that having similar music tastes is important in a partner, and 66% would hesitate to date someone with completely different musical preferences.
  • Matching vibes: 61% of Indians surveyed say that if their partner doesn’t appreciate the music they listen to, they wouldn’t be compatible.

So what’s got Indians grooving?

According to Bumble’s study, here are the top music genres preferred by Indians:

Bollywood (62%) takes the top spot, with Pune (78%), Delhi (70%), and Ahmedabad (70%) showing the greatest affinity for Hindi movie songs. Indian Classical (50%) ranks second, followed by Rap & Hip Hop (39%), Rock (37%), and Folk music (36%).
