Examining the Cycles

In this article, we will explore the exciting new Playmates TMNT Mutant Mayhem line, specifically focusing on the two cycles currently available in stores.

TMNT fans were thrilled on June 25th as the highly anticipated Mutant Mayhem figure line was released. We couldn’t contain our excitement and rushed from one Target store to another, eager to get our hands on these new versions of the beloved TMNT characters. Now that the toys are on store shelves, we feel it’s the perfect time to delve into what the Playmates line has to offer. We would like to express our gratitude to Playmates for sending us a generous box of figures and more to showcase. Today, we will be closely examining the new battle cycles.

TMNT Collectors Will Be Thrilled

The packaging design for this line is absolutely fantastic. Yesterday, we praised the packaging for the four brothers, but the designs for the cycles are even better. The film’s aesthetic perfectly translates into the Playmates line, grabbing the attention of anyone browsing the shelves. The large display window showcases everything beautifully, and the action shots add to the excitement. It’s safe to say that anyone picking up one of these would be eager to make a purchase.

However, once you open them, one clear choice stands out. Unfortunately, it’s not Leo’s cycle. The Ninja Kick Cycle appears quite basic and lacks the excitement we were hoping for. This may be due to the subdued paint application, making it feel rather dull. Throughout the years, the TMNT line has impressed us with its over-the-top designs, but this particular cycle simply feels like a chunk of plain plastic. On a positive note, Leo fits easily on the bike, and it’s worth mentioning that this is a special figure, not just the basic one. The Ninja Kick Action is decent, although you need to spread his legs awkwardly to make it work. Sadly, the disc firing action doesn’t function on this one; once I inserted the disc, it jammed and ceased to work.

On the other hand, the Battle Cycle with Raph is outstanding. This design aligns with what we expect from a TMNT vehicle- vibrant color combinations, numerous play features, and an impressive overall design. I love how you can attach the character buggy from the back to the side and place another figure there, creating your own dynamic team-ups. It’s worth noting that Mikey is not included, but there is an improved version of his nunchucks. Why wasn’t that version included with the base figure? Raph, with his helmet, looks fantastic, and like Leo, he fits perfectly on the bike. This display will undoubtedly look incredible, and both children and adults will enjoy it.

Overall, these cycles provide a mixed experience. If you plan to keep them in their packaging, both are excellent purchases at $25. However, if you intend to open them, I recommend skipping the Ninja Kick Cycle but definitely getting the Battle Cycle; it may be the best release in the line so far. You can find these cycles at Target stores and online. For more information about the Playmates line, visit their official website here.
